There was a very nice surprise waiting in my inbox this morning. A couple of friends (obviously earlier risers than myself) had alerted me to the fact that Madigan Mine was favourably reviewed in The Age newspaper today. So favourably, in fact, that fearsome literary critic Cameron Woodhead actually made it his Pick of the Week! Needless to say, there was much bouncing about followed by a quick trip to the local newsagent to verify this for myself.
Earlier this week, my beloved also found a smashing review which had been posted on the Goodreads website back in early June. I wish I’d seen this earlier. Not only because of the review itself, but also because Goodreads is an awesome site! I’ve made an author profile over there and will definitely be using it to keep track of what I’m reading from now on. I’ll also try to find the time to retro-fill at least my reading list for the first half of 2010 (for which I’ve actually kept a record for the first time in ages). I’m always stumbling into conversations about books and reading — can’t fathom why! — and it will be fantastic to have an easily accessible list of books that I’ve really enjoyed and really want to recommend.
Plus, you know, there’s oodles of potential for productive procrastination!
w00t!
This is such a good review, I expect there would have been a happy dance at your place this morning! And I’m loving the book (picked my copy up from Readings yesterday). Well done!
Congrats on the fabulous reviews, Kirstyn. Can’t wait to pick up my copy when I get home. 🙂
*Snoopy dancing* Congrats 🙂 x
If you go to The Great Raven – http://suebursztynski.blogspot.com – you can read another positive review of your book. Not as big as the Age, but hey, people DO read and follow it and I will shortly be popping the post up on January Magazine, which gets 30,000 hits day. Stand by!
Thanks, Sue. Let me know when it’s up at January and I’ll post a link to that as well.
Will do, Kirstyn, but I don’t have your e-dress and I’d rather let you know directly than have to put up another comment on your blog. So get in touch! 🙂 I will, of course, let Sue Bobbermein know and she will pass it on to you, but my experience with publishers is that they tend to get caught up in other stuff and forget to tell you for a while. or they send you a pile of reviews long after you have checked them out yourself, sometimes reviews you’ve told THEM about.
